In this Modernist design Gaetano Sciolari takes the classic tiered chandelier to greater sculptural effect with the use of different brass finishes & optical shades. The combination of metal & glass surfaces create depth & illusion.
This vintage chandelier consists of a central column from which there are 12 narrow columns in a sunburst pattern. These are in tiers at various levels and finished with 24 large crystal shards. Each shade has an optical design and is removable from the frame. They safely attach to the brass heads of the arms through a small hole in the crystal shade that fits in a lump on the brass frame. The contrast between the satin brass tubular surfaces against the polished brass of the arms, rings & caps adds depth to the piece.
Carries 12 standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 40 watts each; 8 are facing down and 4 facing upwards. Photographed and fitted at present with clear Pygmy light bulbs 15 Watts, widely available at lighting stores. Alternatively this chandelier could take other light bulb shapes such as candle or golf for a different look.
The brass pendant rod can be unscrewed from the main frame to shorten or replace with a longer bar or chain if needed. At the top of the rod there is the original brass ceiling cup which has inside, at the top of the rod, a hook to fit the chandelier to the ceiling.
For safe transport all the pieces are removable. The pendant rod & arms can be separated, and each crystal shade individually wrapped. All the crystal shades are in excellent condition with no chips or damages.
The metal frame is in very good condition with a warm patina in line with age which gives character to the piece.
