Sciolari brass chandelier with 18 optical crystal shards and 9 lights, 1970`s ca, Italy.

Thoroughly cleaned, newly rewired, in full working order and ready to install. Light bulbs included.

In this Modernist design Gaetano Sciolari adapted the classic tiered chandelier to greater sculptural effect with the use of different brass finishes & optical crystal shades. The combination of metal & crystal surfaces creates depth & illusion. The contrast between the satin brass tubular vertical surfaces against the polished brass of the arms, line detail on the centre column, rings, caps, rod & ceiling cup adds texture & interesting reflections.

Structurally this vintage chandelier consists of a central brass column from which there are 9 narrow brass columns in a sunburst pattern. From the central column there are cuboid shaped polished brass arms which hold an outer ring of narrow columns. There are 3 short arms each ending with a lamp holder facing downwards and there are 6 long arms each with a lamp holder facing upwards. Each downward light has a decorative arm with a single crystal shard. Each upward light has a curved arm with 2 crystal shards. A brass ring screws to secure each decorative arm and therefore each is removable. This piece is finished at the bottom with a lower tier of 3 crystal shards. In total there are 18 large crystal shards.

Each crystal shard was hand polished with an optical design and can be removed from the frame. The crystal shards safely attach to the brass heads of the arms through a small hole in the crystal that fits in a lump on the brass frame.

Carries 9 standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 40 watts each. Photographed & fitted at present with clear Pygmy light bulbs 15 Watts which are included in this price. This type of bulb is widely available from lighting stores. Alternatively this chandelier could take other bulb shapes such as candle or golf for a different look.

The gilt brass pendant rod can be unscrewed from the main frame to shorten or replace with a longer bar or chain if needed. At the top of the rod there is the original gilt brass ceiling cup which has inside, at the top of the rod, a hook to fit the chandelier to the ceiling.

All the crystal shards are in excellent condition. The metal frame & rod are also in excellent condition.

For safe transport the pendant rod & arms could be separated. Each crystal shard could be individually wrapped and safely boxed free of charge.

The total height (frame with the pendant rod) is 99 cm.

Height of only the frame is 34 cm.

The length of the pendant rod is 66 cm.

The dimensions of each glass shade are: Height: 25 cm & Width: 4 cm.
