ABOUT US

Sergio Guazzelli trained and worked as an Architect & Interior Designer in Argentina.

In 1990, Sergio moved to Rome, where he developed & diversified his talents. The 'Eternal City' ignited his interest in antiques, leading to a Diploma in Antiques & Fine Arts. As architecture embraced art; antiques found a place in his designs.

Three years later, Sergio opened an antiques showroom in Rome, with a second seasonal shop in Ponza, an island close to Capri. The island spirit, with her international clients, influenced his eclectic style.

Following features in several magazines, Sergio established his own art & antiques publication. As a part of this, Sergio regularly visited and reported on leading European Auction Houses. It was London's art & antiques scene, which drew Sergio.

In 1999, he opened with his partner, Blair Thorburn, their London shop, Roomscape, in the historic Horse Hospital at The Stables Market, Camden Town. It was here that they became one of the first to propose vintage Scandinavian style to the London market.

At the beginning of the Millennium moving away from Minimalism Roomscape proposed further styles such as Hollywood Regency & Modernist Glam. " I was attracted by the sculptural and Modernist lines of Gaetano Sciolari Lighting pieces back in the early nineties, when he was quite unknown, mostly everything in vintage proposed back then was chrome, Murano glass, or Danish, brass was almost taboo" Sergio recalls.

Roomscape’s adventurous approach brought them to the attention of many other London architects, interior designers & buyers leading to the successful collaboration & the launch of London Liberty’s Fourth-Floor Furniture Department in 2006.

Decorators not only appreciated the style but also the quality of pieces. With a wide range of contacts and 25 years experience in the luxury industry, Sergio & Blair source stock from abroad as well as trade fairs, private clients and auctions houses.

Roomscape searches quality antique & vintage items and gently restores them with great attention to detail, bringing the pieces to the best original vintage condition.

All vintage pieces for sale on our website have been beautifully restored and the lighting newly rewired. All items are ready for dealers to resell or private clients to fit in their homes.

In 2009 , Roomscape moved from a ‘traditional’ shop to a larger showroom with a stronger online presence. The ‘By Appointment’ Showroom allows  for more attention and time sourcing items, with weekly shipments from Europe. It has certainly helped that Sergio is fluent in five languages.

2010 was the year Roomscape worked in partnership with Mary Portas' Living & Giving shops furnishing the Notting Hill and Primrose Hill stores. This collaboration proved charity shopping can be socially responsible, exciting and stylish at the same time.

‘Socially’ responsible in other ways, Roomscape has sourced vintage pieces for the entertainment industry such as The Union Club in Soho, London. The Union is a well established private members club and one of the first to furnish their club almost exclusively with vintage pieces. Most notable is their collection of Sciolari Chandeliers from Roomscape.

In 2010 Roomscape launched it's Art Collection, a great selection of 20th Century Art, mostly British artists, from the likes of Terry Frost, Richard Smith, Patrick Heron, John Piper, Victor Pasmore, Patrick Proctor, Stephen Buckey, Brendan Neiland, Patrick Caulfield, Malcom Morley, the URWIN Group and John Chamberlain.

Introducing a hire service in 2011, Roomscape has moved fast into Fashion, supplying Designers Guild, Fresh Film , Cutler and Gross luxury eyeware , Elle Decoration magazine , Agent Provocateur , Miss Sixty , Bulgari , Coppi Barbieri, & Soho House.

The Bulgari 2013 Haute Joaillerie ad campaign that autumn , featured Roomscape vintage pieces together with the lovely Carla Bruni - Sarkozy in Rome.

Roomscape  was an early member of the prestigious online marketplace Decorative Collective. In the summer of 2012 Roomscape was pleased to be invited to take part in "Interiors Inspired by the Decorative Collective" a book about decorative dealing and the dealers making up The Decorative Collective.

In December 2012 Roomscape launched it's Vintage Jewellery Collection with rare American pieces from the 1940's & 1950's, like Trifari & Coro Craft, Renoir & Matisse, HAR, including sought after Jelly Bellies. The collection also features Runway jewellery by Christian Lacroix, Dior, Chanel & Yves Saint Laurent.

In the summer of 2015 Roomscape introduced a  Contemporary Furniture Collection; vintage i nspired sofas, armchairs & chandeliers. Working with local craftsman in Italy using traditional methods to exact specifications and quality materials there are designs in the style of Ico Parisi 1950's style kidney sofa  & Marco Zanuso inspired 1950's 'Senior' armchair & 'Lady' Armchair . All were available in a choice  of 20 colours of quality velvet upholstery. Upon customer's requests in 2018 the matching footstool to these armchairs was launched.

In September 2016 Roomscape was approached to join 1stdibs,  the world's largest  online  luxury marketplace.

2018 was a great year for Roomscape, starting a fine collaboration with British luxury accessories  designer Sophia Webster, being invited to source special vintage & contemporary pieces to complement & create the look of the fabolous newly opened Chelsea Boutique .

Summer 2019, we had a 'staycation' and fell in love again with all things British. Hammered-effect brass & copper with engravings take us back to honest English craftsmanship, like this vintage brass magazine rack, decorated with a shield, knight and foliage, 1930`s ca, by `Peerage Brass`of England just arrived in stock.

The global pandemic in 2020 was challenging for everyone. Our vast online presence for over 10 years plus our London UK premises set up by appointment only, have both allowed us to continue working ensuring seamless operations. We offered private viewings, collections & shipping with reliable couriers worldwide.

We started 2023 focusing on our main passion over the years: sourcing great unique vintage & antique lighting, all pieces are fully rewired, restored, Pat Tested by an electrician & ready to install.

Roomscape is proud to support the Antiques are Green campaign in the UK, along with all the Antique Roadshow experts .

From the public to international dealers, architects & interior designers, from a private members club to your local bar, our customers are as eclectic as our style. One thing in common: they are fans of the idiosyncratic and daring mix.
