Willy Rizzo bar table, burl wood veneer, black stained veneer, glass, mirror & chrome, 1970`s ca, Italian.

This table has been thoroughly cleaned respecting the vintage patina and is ready to use.

The attributed designer of this coffee table is Willy Rizzo whose furniture was sold by the luxury retailer Mario Sabot in Italy. This table which was sourced from a home in Rome, Italy has the quality detailing & luxury materials characteristic of Rizzos work. In this case the use of rich precious woods textures & metals follow the lines of his popular Alveo Range.

This modernist piece, from the late 70s has Art Deco design references such as burl wood veneer & black wood veneer both in a high polished finish. In addition there is chrome detailing and a plinth base. The result is a statement piece perfect for entertaining in a large living room. The Modernist form in luxury materials makes this piece fitting for a range of Interior Design schemes.

The design is a clever & playful combination of the cube & square surfaces. When closed this coffee table has a simple sculptural cubic geometric form drawing attention to the golden burl wood veneer & original thick square glass top. With its subtle emerald green tone the glass lets through tinted light which is reflected in the mirror compartment below.

When open this table playfully transforms. Below there is a square dry bar lined in mirror for bottles. Surrounding this there is a raised black plinth for glasses. The removable silver mirror exaggerates the depth, while keeping the piece light.

The top surface of the table has a checker pattern of burl wood at each corner. The unique pattern of burl wood comes from rare & deviated tree growth. This veneer is highly prized for its beauty and therefore sought after by furniture makers. The veneer is cleverly set to contrast the direction of the grain & golden tone.

To open the table for access to the inside, two of the sides slide outwards along chrome tracking. Each of these sides is composed of 2 veneer corners linked together by a rectangular portion which is veneered wood stained black. There is chrome detailing with a square profile surrounding & unifying the frame. The chrome trim repeats the reflections of the silver mirror inside. A portion of this chrome trim separates & slides along with the sides when they open.

When open, the centre square glass appears to float when in fact it is suspended on chrome pegs to the two black veneer volumes. The glass top is removable and easy to lift off. It could be left on when the table is open or totally removed if a full open bar is preferred.

Viewed from the side this table has a deep base with veneered wood stained black. This volume sits on a short pedestal square base in black laminate. This is recessed to give the appearance that the table is floating.

The table is in very good condition. The lacquer surfaces are in very good condition with only a few tiny superficial scratches as expected for its age. The glass & mirror are in excellent condition. The tracking is secure and slides smoothly.

Packing is offered free of charge. The glass & mirror surfaces are removable and will be wrapped & boxed separately for safe travel. The frame would be wrapped in light foam & bubble wrap and if necessary a second layer of card.
