This vintage console table is possibly designed by Jeff Messerschmidt based on a number of attributes. The use of bent Lucite piping & gold plated bolts holding the frame at the two corners are similar to Jeff Messerschmidt`s `Pipeline Series II 1972-89` armchairs. While Messerschmidt pieces are usually signed & dated this console is not.
With sinusoidal curves of the earlier Art Nouveau style, this console is a reinterpretation of Antoni Gaudi`s organic`s style Modernism. In this case the design is executed in materials classic to the 1970`s, Lucite, glass & gold plated gilt. The decorative oversized bow in the centre is a playful Post-Modern detail.
The flow of movement in design is impressive, leaving the mind to wonder how this table stands up. The result is artistic, playful and a feminine twist on the usual auster Modernism. This console table would be an ideal sculptural piece to make a statement, perfect at the entry or top of the stairs where the form could be appreciated.
Structurally there are two continuous Lucite pipes which curve & bend. In two places these approximate just enough to support the glass top. It is here where a bold decorative gilt bolt holds the frame together. Thin metal gilt tubing supports the frame in four other places: crossing between the front & back, and banding from left to right. The Lucite piping & gilt tubing are all held together at the feet which are also gold plated.
The quality 12mm clear glass top is the original vintage. It has a similar Art Nouveau organic shape further highlighted with a bebelled edge of 15mm. This removable glass top sits on 3 portions of the frame, securely attached to 3 clear suction cups.
This console table is in good condition. The glass top & Lucite are in very good condition with no chips and only a few minor superficial marks in line with age & wear. The gold plated gilt metal surfaces have some rubbing & oxidation in places, a few along the tubing but most noticeable on the feet.
Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. The glass top would be removed and wrapped separately in bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. The frame would have bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. This table would fit easily in a box for safe shipping.
