Ernst Palme chandelier for Palwa, silver plated frame with 78 crystals, 1960`s, German.

This chandelier has been thoroughly cleaned respecting the vintage patina. Newly rewired & earthed with gold silk cable, in full working order & ready to install. Light bulbs included. It is possible to install this light in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. It can be used with a dimmer.

Palme Lighting is well known for the quality of the crystals & originality of design. In this case the traditional chandelier is given a Modern twist with teardrop crystals & geometric forms. This Palwa design is a great balance between the Brutalist style of the 60`s with Hollywood Regency glamour & luxury materials. The silver plated frame has a Brutalist design and is elegantly decorated with quality teardrop crystals to beautifully reflect the light. The combination of these styles makes this chandelier an unique addition to a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Traditional or Contemporary.

The frame has 2 parts: a canopy with crystals hanging from the central portion with the lamp holders.

The silver plated canopy is in the shape of a crown, the surface decorated with an undulated textured pattern in the Brutalist style. It has an internal tubular round structure that sits safely on top of the 3 arms of the central column.

In total there are 78 crystals distributed in three tiers. The top tier has 26 rounded points curving outwards, each of them with a tear shaped crystal attached. The bottom tier is of similar design, with 26 rounded points facing inwards, each with a crystal attached. The middle of the canopy is composed by the 26 arches, inside each there is a crystal attached. The crystals are easily removable if needed for transport.

The central portion of the frame is cylindrical and silver plated. It has at the top a white lacquer flat portion where 3 silver plated arms of rectangular section are attached. These arms support a tubular internal frame attached by 3 flat metal pegs to the inside of the textured silver plated canopy, holding the composition together. A decorative silver plated conical cup slides on top of the white metal dish & arms covering the junction.

There are 6 lamp holders placed horizontally in a sunburst pattern around the vertical portion of the frame. Each lamp holder carries one standard small screw E 14 light bulb up to 40 Watts. At present fitted & photographed with clear Candle light bulbs of 25 Watts, which are included in the price. It could take any other E 14 light bulb shape for a different look.

The bottom of the central frame is silver plated, and finishes with a cylindrical decorative finial.

At the top the rod which is also silver plated screws to the central portion of the frame. The rod could be easily replaced for a chain if preferred. The chandelier has been newly rewired with 4 extra metres of antique gold silk cable in anticipation if more length is needed. There is a cylindrical silver plated ceiling cup that slides along the rod and can be fitted at different heights by a metal ring & a screw. Inside the ceiling cup there is a loop fitted to the rod with an S hook to hang the chandelier to the ceiling.

This chandelier is in very good condition. The silver plated surfaces are in good condition with a warm antique patina and minor marks in line with age. All the 78 crystal droplets are present, original and in excellent condition with no chips or damages.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport, the chandelier would be wrapped in a layer of bubble wrap, foam & soft card. The crystal droplets will be removed & packed separately. Both frame & crystals would easily fit into a box with loose fill packing peanuts ideal for safe posting.
