Willy Rizzo coffee table bar `Alveo` in chrome, brass and chocolate brown gloss lacquer, Italian.

This table has been thoroughly cleaned respecting the original aged patina and is ready to use.

This original vintage coffee table by Willy Rizzo was retailed by the company Mario Sabot in Italy from 1972. It is iconic of Rizzo`s glamourous designs of the period, combining Modernism with luxury materials like lacquer and metals. These materials & design make this table well suited for a vast range of design schemes such as Art Deco, 70`s, Modernist, Minimalist, Industrial or Contemporary.

At the centre of the generous size chocolate brown gloss lacquer rectangular top there sits a removable chrome dry bar/display area with a removable brass insert. There are additional sculptural details such as the polished chrome corners.

The top sits on a recessed plinth base giving a `floating` appearance characteristic for the period.

This table is in good condition with uniformity of colour, gloss and clean finish to the top surface. There is light surface patina in line with age. There has been a tiny small restoration to a minute chip in a corner to the plinth base.

The removable chrome bar compartment is in very good condition with only light marks of wear in line with age. The previous owner had a removable decorative brass plate made which nicely fits into the bar. This adds additional metal tone to this table without affecting the original design.

This design has been published in several publications: the July/August 1972 issue of the design periodical Casa Vogue, Maison & Jardin, Septembre 1973, page 131 and `Le retour de Willy Rizzo`, AD, number 86, Septembre 2009, page 54. This Italian 1970`s coffee table was also exhibited at the 1973 Salone di mobile in Milan.

Packing is offered free of charge. This piece would be wrapped in both bubble wrap & card. If necessary the internal dry bar could be removed and packed separately.

The dimensions of the internal brass compartment are: Height: 13.5 cm, Width: 49.5 cm and Depth: 31.5 cm.

The dimensions of the plinth base are: Height: 20 cm, Width: 46.5 cm, Depth: 85 cm.

Willy Rizzo (1928 - 2013) was first known as the photographer to the stars. In the 70`s he & his wife moved to Rome. They took the avant-garde step of converting a commercial space into an apartment. To fill this loft, Rizzo built his own furniture which became so popular with his friends that he eventually set up a workshop in Rome. Read more on our Blog about Willy Rizzo furniture.
