Willy Daro lights, a pair of Lotus flower pendants in brass, bronze & Lucite, 1960`s ca, Belgian.

Sourced in Belgium, this pair of 1960`s sculptural pendants have many features of the Belgian designer Willy Daro. The use of bronze & brass to create naturalistic forms are characteristic of his designs. Although these pendants are not signed, the design & shape of the flower petals follow his signed designs for the Capiz Shell & Agate lamps of the 1960`s & 1970`s as featured in the Phillips London Design Auction September 2013.

This pair of chandeliers have been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. They are newly rewired & earthed with antique gold silk cable, new bronze lamp holders & new brass chain. They are fully working and PAT tested by an electrician. Crown Gold light bulbs are included in this price. These pendants would work with a dimmer. It is possible to use these lights in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity.

This playful design has large textured Lotus flowers in solid patinated brass. In the Brutalist style they are both sculptural and intriguing. This pair of pendants would suit a range of Interiors such as Mid-Century Modern, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Brutalist, 70`s Glamour, Post Modern, Industrial, Traditional or Contemporary.

The composition is essentially two parts: a bronze frame and 4 Lotus flowers of patinated brass petals.

Each frame has a bronze cylindrical main portion working as a receptacle for the wiring. On the top side there are 12 decorative stamens in brass, all rising at different heights and curving outwards. There is also a short tubular rod with a ring to attach the brass chain which can be easily shortened or lengthened if required.

The chain leads up to the original bronze ceiling cup. This can be screwed at different heights along a short tubular vertical rod and held in place with a ring & screw. Inside the ceiling cup, there is a removable S hook to hang from the ceiling.

Descending from the bottom of the main cylinder, there are 4 bronze stems working as the ‘pedicel’ for each flower. The central stem is shorter holding a small flower, while the other 3 curve outwards with a large flower.

Each flower has 6 brass petals in the shape of a Lotus flower. The internal set of petals is smaller than the external to enhance the sense of depth.

The 4 lamp holders create the pistil of each flower. Each has a metal ring to screw the petals.

On the bottom portion of each frame there are also fitted 6 long textured brass leaves and 9 long stamens finished with a faceted Lucite bead. These details add fullness and interesting reflections.

Each pendant carries four large standard screw light bulbs (E27) up to 60 watts each. These lights are presently fitted and photographed with Gold Crown light bulbs (60 Watts). These bulbs are included in this price. Replacements are easy to purchase in most lighting shops or over the internet. Alternatively, it is possible to use other E27 bulb shapes for a different look.

These pendants sell together, and the price is for the pair.

Both pendants are in very good condition. The bronze frame is sound and all the petals and brass pistils are present as are the Lucite beads. The brass surfaces are in very good condition with no loses. The brass surfaces have the original clear lacquer present on the patinated bronze finish, and the original warm antique patina in line with age.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care with packing. For safe transport all the petals will be removed and wrapped separately in bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. The frames will also be wrapped separately in bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. Together these pieces would easily fit into a box with loose fill suitable for posting with a courier.

Additional dimensions:

The total Height of each pendant together with the chain is 120 cm.

Each frame alone (without the chain) is Height: 65 cm; Width: 60 cm; Depth: 60 cm.

Each large flower has a Diameter of 33 cm.
