Vintage Surrealist painting in the original frame signed by the artist Antonio Cigna, sailing boats in a sunset bay, acrylic on canvas, 1970, Italian.

This vintage painting & frame are both in the original vintage condition.

This large painting, together with the Surrealist theme and monochrome tones, would make a striking addition to a range of interiors such as Art Deco, 60`s Psychedelia, Post Modern, Contemporary or Photographic Gallery style.

In this Surrealist painting the eye is attracted to three isolated boats on the bay. They are stationary, positioned in the center on a light beige background. In the same background there is the sun lower down suggesting the end of the day; calm, still & tranquil. It is signed in the bottom right corner `A Cigna 70`.

In contrast the coast & rocks at the sides have a black background. The moody dark tones add to the mystery. The transition between dark to light is cleverly created by vertical lines, changing perceptive layers for the viewer. The boats and land seem to be floating in space.

The artist shows his imagination and skill. The brushes of the boats are delicate as is his dark-light transitions. Minimal accents of terracotta tones are subtly immersed in an overall beige & black painting. Monochrome paintings are intriguing and have been used by artists for centuries to show technique and help the viewer to focus. Both seem applicable in this painting.

This painting sits within the original vintage frame. It is pine painted beige to complement the painting. The frame has texture and a subtle golden trim. On the revers it is stamped `Studio Art Ann Dodgson Cheapside Lancaster`.

The painted surface has the original patina and has not been cleaned. The canvas is in good condition for its age with no cuts or holes. There is slight wrinkling in the corners. There are minor marks & loses to the paint. The frame is sound and the joints are tight. The frame has minor marks & rubbing in line with age  & wear.
