Vintage brass umbrella stand by `Peerage Brass` of England, 1930`s ca, English.

This item has been gently cleaned while respecting the antique patina and is ready to use.

This vintage umbrella stand of gentle proportions with applied Neoclassical decoration is kept modern with its minimal form. It would make a fun & practical addition to a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Traditional, Mid-century, Industrial or Contemporary.

The design consists of a large sculptural piece in solid polished brass, in a warm light tone, in the shape of a classical column on a circular plinth base.

The shaft or main portion of the column has a hammered polished finish decorated with solid brass swag & tassels. At either end there is subtle embossed banding.

At the centre of one side of the stand there is an applied solid polished brass Neoclassical decoration consisting of a symmetrical rope, ball & tassels theme. There is an elegant contrast in depth & texture between the gold tone of the brass decoration and the hammered tone of the brass sheet. The other side of the umbrella stand is in plain polished hammered brass.

The plinth base is not only Neoclassical in design, but also adds stability as it is weighted inside.

Inside this stand, the walls of the tube are in solid brass as it is the flat bottom.

The original maker`s mark `Peerage Made in England` is stamped on the bottom.

This vintage piece is in very good condition. The brass surfaces have the original gently aged patina and minor marks & a few tiny dents in line with age & wear, mostly around the bottom.

PEERAGE BRASS OF ENGLAND HISTORY

`Peerage` was the trade name for the earlier company `Pearson Page` of Birmingham, which is known to have operated pre -1900`s. The Company produced original copper & brass ware with the height of production between 1910-1940`s. Their aim was quality period reproductions which were occasionally marked. Peerage Brass became the brand name after World War II until this trademark lapsed in 1991.
