Pair of swan bookends/vases in the Maison Jansen style, solid polished brass, 1970`s ca, French.
These bookends have been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. They are ready to use.
Although not signed, these bookends are in keeping with Maison Jansen’s quality & detail. They have several distinctive design features: the swan theme, elegant proportions, quality brass casting & heavy weight.
The design is innovate but also classic. The swan form with repeated geometric forms are Neoclassical references which are kept `light` & `modern`.
These sculptural bookends would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Country, Traditional, Hollywood Regency, Post Modern, Industrial or Contemporary.
Here the swan is elongating the neck. The head is executed with naturalistic detail. The wings are raised and become vases/containers for flowers/pens. The feet follow the geometric curves of the organic design to become a pedestal base. Placed next to each other, the heads face opposite directions and create a sense of movement.
The original vintage green felt is present underneath each to protect the furniture below.
These bookends sell together and the price is for the pair. The books are for display and not included in the sale.
Both bookends are in very good condition. The brass is sound with no damages. The original clear lacquer is present on the brass, with patina & minor marks in line with age.
Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport each bookend would be wrapped separately in bubble wrap, foam, and an outer layer of card. These would be stacked together and boxed with loose fill packing nuts, safe for posting with a courier. We ship with reliable couriers (signed for, tracked & insured).
