Sciolari Cubic gold chandelier, gold plated gilt frame with 52 glass petals, 1970`s ca, Italian.

This chandelier has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. It is rewired, earthed & ready to install. It is possible to install this chandelier in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. It can be used with a dimmer.

With its Modernist repeated cubic shapes this chandelier playfully twists the traditional form. The result is sculptural & chic. This Cubic design along with the gold-plated gilt frame and quality glass are characteristic of the designs by Gaetano Sciolari the attributed designer. This model is particularly rare with the floral shaped petals.

The combination of Modernism & floral makes this chandelier a unique addition to a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Post-Modern or Contemporary.

Attention is drawn to the 13 flower-like arms hanging downwards before spread opening to reveal the light bulb. Each flower is cubic shaped with 4 rectangular petals coming out of a golden cube. At the top there is a decorative gilt bolt and arched tubing connecting each flower to the next.

Each `flower` is connected to neighbouring ones with gilt arching tubing with a square profile. These flowers are staggered in height and form a grid like pattern around the centre flower. This centre portion of the frame also follows the cubic shape but is slightly longer in height, and hangs lower from the rest. The central flower joins the central column which rises to the removable pendant rod.

At the top of the rod there is the original dome shaped ceiling cup. Inside the ceiling cup fitted at the top of the rod there is a hook to hang this chandelier to the ceiling. The pendant rod can easily be unscrewed making it possible to increase or decrease this rod, or replace with a brass chain. Also the existing pendant rod has 2 portions united by a gilt coupler so the height can be shortened.

The 52 removable glass petals are of exquisite quality craftsmanship: they are in clear glass with a top layer of white glass. The edges are bevelled to reveal the clear glass. Therefore each petal appears to have an outer frame. Both surfaces of the petals are highly polished. The outer surface has the white portion raised while the internal surface is flat. These petals curve outwards so when grouped in fours they create a flower shape. At the top of each petal there is a hole which locks in place onto the frame by a metal prong in the frame. this is achieved by sliding upwards the gilt cubic cover on each lamp holder. When installed each petal continues through the golden metal covers for a decorative finishing detail.

This chandelier carries 13 small screw standard E14 light bulbs up to 40 Watts each. At present it is fitted & photographed with clear 15 Watts Pygmy shaped light bulbs which are included in this price. Other types of E14 light bulbs such a Candle & Golf could be used for a different look.

This vintage chandelier is in very good condition. The frame is in very good condition and sturdy. The gilt is present on the metal with only some minor rubbing in a few small areas in line with age. The original age patina is present on the metal adding character, such as tiny dots in places hardly visible. The 32 glass petals are all in very good condition and intact, with no cracks or chips, and only tiny minor rubbing to the glass in a couple of corners in line with age & use.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport, the glass pieces would be removed and wrapped in a layer of bubble wrap & cardboard. The frame would be wrapped in bubble wrap. Together these parts would easily fit into a box ideal for posting.

We have available in stock the complementary chandelier to this one, with 8 lights, featured as item # 10994.
