Sciolari cubic chandelier, large sculptural chrome frame with 17 lights, 1970`s ca, Italy.

This Gaetano Sciolari vintage chandelier (Sciolari model number 637)  was designed for Lightolier Lighting and featured in the company`s 1976  catalogue  (photographed). The quality chrome frame consists of 17 polished chrome cubic rectangles attached by arches in brushed steel. From the main section there are 4 arms spreading outwards; each with 4 cuboids containing lights staggered at different heights. There is another light at the bottom of the main column for a total of 17 lights. Each cuboid is finished with a removable textured clear Lucite shade to cover the light bulb; these pull out in order to change the light bulb. With it`s composition, detail and 70`s `Brutalist` texture, this piece is just as Modernist & Avant Garde as when it was designed nearly 40 years ago. Carries 17 standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 40 Watts each. At present fitted with Pygmy clear light bulbs 15 Watts each. The original pendant bar in polished chrome has a square section which adds to the rather industrial look. At the top there is the original decorative square ceiling cap which has the original Sciolari Cubic maker`s label and covers the hook to fit the rod to the ceiling. Also the rod has a screw at the top to balance the piece ensuring it always hangs vertically even in an angled ceiling. The rod can be unscrewed from the top of the main frame to allow it to be replaced with a longer or shorter bar if needed, as well as boxed for easy transport.  Inside the metal frame the piece is stamped Sciolari.  All the Lucite shades are in perfect condition. The frame chrome & steel finish & structure are all in excellent condition. Newly rewired, in full working order and ready to use.

The height of the frame alone without the pendant rod is 39 cm.
The length of the pendant rod is 39 cm.
Each rectangular column tube has the following dimensions - Height: 12.2 cm, Width 6 cm & Depth 6 cm.

Gaetano Sciolari Biography

While Sciolari Lighting has been around since 1892, it was their most famous offspring Gaetano Sciolari who went on to design for Italian manufacturer Stilnovo in the 1950’s. Read more about Gaetano Sciolari on our Blog.
