Saint Louis crystal lamp, signed, handblown, 1950`s ca, French

This vintage table lamp has been gently cleaned while respecting the age patina. It is newly rewired & earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to use. It has a new silver metal lamp holder, new grey silk cable, new white cord switch & new white plug (UK Plug up to 250V). This lamp can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use this light in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity.

This original vintage crystal lamp has been made in stunning mouth blown clear crystal by renown French cristallerie Maison Saint Louis, the oldest manufacturer of art glass in Europe, around the 1950`s. The firm had a long reputable history making quality crystal objects to the present day.

The lamp is marked underside within the pontil mark of the base with the acid etched "Cristal - Saint Louis - France" seal and mark. The original vintage manufacturer`s label "Saint Louis Cristal of France" including their famous crown logo, is still present on the outside.

Timeless with its elegant sculptural form & modernist lines. It works well as a desk, entrance, table or bedside lamp. It would make an elegant & glamorous addition to a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Traditional, Mid-Century, Hollywood Regency, or Contemporary.

This table lamp is of good large proportions, and combines modernist style with classic, time tested, craftsmanship.

The lamp`s body elongates from the triangular base at the bottom into a curved linear form, narrowing  towards the neck and the lampholder. The   craftsman also shaped the inner cavities of the glass. Using a special valve at the top of the blowing pipe, the glassblower created a decorative air chamber inside the glass, at the centre of the base. The separated space inside the glass make for multiple light refractions.

A new silver tone metal lampholder with cover has been fitted, complementing the overall look of the lamp. Two removable silver metal rings secure the lampshade.

This lamp is finished with a quality vintage screw on drum shade, in black silk and silver lined, dating probably from the 1980`s. The lampshade is included in the price.

It carries 1 standard small screw light bulb (E14) up to 60 Watts. At present it is fitted & photographed with a Golf Clear shaped light bulb of 28 Watts, which is included in the price. It could take any other E14 bulb types.

This vintage lamp is in very good condition for its age. The crystal base is sound with no chips or cracks and only minor superficial marks, mostly on the underside, in line with age & wear. The vintage lampshade is in good condition and sound, with no cuts or holes, with a small slightly dented area on the outside.

Additional dimensions:

The total height of the lamp with the shade on is: 54 cm.

The dimensions of the crystal base alone (without the lampshade) is: Height: 37 cm, Width: 17 cm, Depth: 17 cm.

MAISON SAINT LOUIS HISTORY

Saint Louis Crystal is the oldest "Cristallerie" in France. Founded in 1586, their factory still stands on the same site. They became "Verrerie Royale" (Royal Glassworks) in 1767 through Louis XV’s royal seal of approval. In 1781, experts at Saint-Louis solved the mystery perfecting the technique into making genuine crystal, the finest and most transparent glass possible.
Since 1829, renamed "Cristallerie Royale de Saint-Louis", the manufacture has been exclusively devoted to the production of crystal-glass items, introducing the concept of a set of glasses for the dining table with the Trianon service.
The crystal is mouthblown, hand-cut, hand-engraved and hand-decorated using 24-carat gold or platinum.
Saint-Louis has been part of the Hermès group since 1995.
