Pierre Cardin console table & mirror, chrome, gold plated gilt & Lucite, 1970`s French.

This console & mirror have been thoroughly cleaned respecting the original lacquer & vintage patina and are ready to use.

This elegant modernist vintage console table with matching mirror is attributed to Pierre Cardin. This set has many of the features of Cardin`s Puzzle Table from the same period. This design consists of a Lucite & gilt band at two ends wrapping around a chrome frame. The result is a sculptural set executed in luxurious materials to great decorative effect.

It is rare to find a vintage set of console & mirror that has not been separated through the years. This makes this set valuable & highly sought after.

This set would compliment a range of design schemes such as Art Deco, Modernist, Minimalist, 1970`s Glamour or Contemporary.

The console table has an elegant Minimalist chrome frame of rectangular section, with a band at either end of Lucite & gold plated gilt. This banding is also of rectangular section and follows the lines of the chrome frame, adding a light feel and sense of movement to the piece. The combination of materials adds depth & interesting reflections.

The banding also serves to securely hold the original glass top which has a thickness of 7 mm. This glass top is removable.

Beneath this level, there is a removable clear glass shelf also of 7 mm thickness. This shelf is suspended on 4 removable chrome pegs. This middle shelf could be eliminated if preferred.

The elegant large vintage rectangular mirror matches the console in terms of materials & design. The same combination of chrome, Lucite & gold gilt is present. The silver mirror surface is securely held behind the banding of Lucite & gilt by 4 removable brass pieces that screw to the main frame.

On the back of the chrome frame there are 2 holes to hook to screws on the wall.

Both the console table & mirror are in very good condition. The chrome & Lucite surfaces are in very good condition. There is some rubbing to the gilt finish alongside the console frame banding as expected for its age. There is rubbing to one portion of the leg as photograph however this does not detract from the piece. The 2 glass top surfaces & mirror surface are in very good condition with no chips.

This console & mirror sell together and this price is for the set.

Additional measurements:

The console table alone has the following dimensions: Height: 76 cm, Width: 130 cm, Depth: 38 cm.

Pierre Cardin was born in Italy in 1922 and moved to Paris in the forties to study Architecture. In 1950 he founded his own fashion house where he also designed furniture. Cardin is known for his avant-garde style and his ‘space age’ designs. Pierre Cardin furniture designs were largely of wood with new types of lacquers. Furniture by Pierre Cardin is know for the attention to detail & precision as exemplified in Pierre Cardin`s Puzzle Table. Cardin`s furniture is well executed making them timeless classics and therefore suitable for a range of interiors. He once said his furniture is “the opposite of straight sober clean lines, it is furniture made up of organic cells; all I did was reveal their aesthetic quality”.
