These vintage wall lights have been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. They are newly rewired & earthed, PAT tested by an electrician, fully working and ready to install. Light bulbs are included. These lights can be use with a dimmer. It is possible to use these lights in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity.

The original Palwa maker`s label is still present on the back of each frame.

Palme Lighting is well known for the quality of the crystals & originality of design. In this case the traditional pineapple chandelier is given a Modern twist with faceted icicle drop crystals & geometric forms.

This Palwa design is an artistic balance between the Brutalist style of the 60`s with Hollywood Regency glamour & luxury materials. The gold plated frame has a Brutalist design and is elegantly decorated with quality crystals to beautifully reflect the light. The combination of these styles makes these sconces an unique addition to a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Traditional or Contemporary.

Each sconce is shaped as a half pineapple, where the top portion of the crown of scale leaves is in textured gilt brass, and the fruit is represented by 50 high quality faceted crystals.

The frames are quality cast and have a good weight.

The frame of each light has 3 parts: a removable canopy with the gilt brass crown & crystals, a polished brass round plate with 2 lamp holders, and a round metal wall bracket.

On each light, the gilt brass canopy is in the shape of half a pineapple crown. The surface of this crown leaves is decorated with a textured pattern in the Brutalist style. It has at the top 6 rounded points curving outwards, each with a small octagonal shape dangling faceted crystal.

The bottom portion of the canopy of leaves is of similar design, with 6 rounded points facing inwards, each with a faceted icicle drop dangling crystal. Between the 6 leaves there are 5 gilt brass stems fitted to the inside top of the crown. Each stem divides into two arms and curves inwards. The external arm is finished with a faceted icicle drop crystal plus a large octagon faceted dangling crystal, while the internal arm is finished with a faceted icicle drop crystal plus two large faceted octagon dangling crystals.

Each crown canopy has a square brass peg at the back to slide & fit into a hook on top of each round brass plate. This plate has two lamp holders with polished brass holder covers facing downwards. At the centre of each round plate there are 3 brass stems fitted curving upwards. The central one is shorter and is finished with a faceted icicle drop crystal plus two large octagon faceted dangling crystals. The lateral stems are finished with a faceted icicle drop crystal plus one large octagon faceted dangling crystal. Towards the bottom border of the plate, there are fitted in three separate locations, one faceted icicle drop crystal plus one medium octagon faceted dangling crystal to complete the composition.

In total on each light there are 50 high quality lead cut crystals: 22 faceted icicle drop crystals,19 large octagon faceted crystals, 3 medium octagon faceted crystals &  6 small octagon faceted crystals . All these crystals are removable if needed for transport.

There are 2 holes on the round brass plate. These line up to the round metal wall bracket, which has two treads fitted, each with a decorative round brass nut, to secure the composition. Each wall bracket has holes to screw to the wall.

Each wall light carries 2 standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 40 Watts. At present these lights are fitted & photographed with Pygmy Clear shaped light bulbs of 25 Watts. These are included in the price. It is possible to use other E14 light bulb type/shapes if preferred.

These lights sell together and the price featured is for the pair.

This pair of vintage sconces is in good condition. The vintage patina has been preserved. The metal frames are sound with no missing or broken parts. The gilt & brass surfaces are in good condition, with the clear lacquer present on the brass with a light warm patina developed underneath over the years and minor marks & rubbing. ERNST PALME & PALWA LIGHTING HISTORY

Founded in 1747, Palme Chandeliers is one of the oldest chandelier manufacturing companies in the world. Originally based in North Bohemia, the center of the art of glass industry, the Company initially worked to commissions for the Royal Courts. In the 20th Century requests came in from other prestigious building and hotels. In 1945, the Chandelier factory was nationalized by the Government of Czechoslovakia, and consequently, the German owner and his workers immigrated to Germany where the company is now based.

Palwa is a lighting company from Germany that after nearly 80 years still exists today. Palwa has a historical worldwide reputation as a manufacturer of beautiful light fittings with their own in-house design department and craftsmen who produce special one-off designs. For this reason their vintage pieces by Palme & Walter are becoming very rare to find and sought after. Read more on our  Roomscape Blog about Palwa Lighting History.
