Willy Daro lamps, a matching pair in the Brutalist style with brass frames holding amethyst crystals, 1970`s ca, Belgium.
These table lamps have been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. Both are newly rewired, earthed, fully working and PAT tested by an electrician. Each has a new brass lamp holder, antique gold tone silk cable, new black cord switch & black plug. Light bulbs included. It is possible to use these lights in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity.
Sourced in Belgium, this pair of 1970`s table lamps with the combination of rock crystals & elegant brass frames have features of Belgian designer Willy Daro.
The elegant modern design is complemented with the addition of real amethyst, travertine and solid polished brass. The result is both Modernist & Brutalist. This pair of sculptural lamps would suit a range of Interiors such as Mid-Century Modern, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Brutalist, 70`s Glamour, Post Modern, Industrial, Traditional or Contemporary.
The rectangular base of real travertine serves as the plinth for a ‘geode’ of natural amethyst. The colour of the stone ranges from dark to light purple depending on the light. The violet quartz is mounted on a solid polished brass cylinder which allow it to rotate sideways to vary the look. The travertine base is slightly raised by 4 stoppers to protect the furniture underneath.
At the back of the travertine base stands a solid polished brass tubular column. This curves upwards outlining the stone and then rises to the brass lamp holder which is new.
The two conical lampshades are the original, in ivory gloss patent effect. They are trimmed with beige fabric and have gold lining. The soft tone of the lampshades along with the golden details contribute a softness to the ‘Brutalist’ design. Each lamp shade is screwed in place to the lamp holder by a brass ring.
Each lamp takes one standard big screw light bulb (E27) up to 60 Watts. Presently fitted and photographed with Candle Clear light bulbs of 25 Watts. These are included in the price. Alternatively, it is possible to use other E27 light bulb shapes.
These lamps sell together, and the price is for the pair.
Both vintage lamps are in very good condition. The travertine bases are in very good condition with no chips to the stone. The amethyst geodes are sound with no cracks. The brass surfaces have the original clear lacquer present, together with a warm antique patina & tiny marks adding character. The lampshades are in good condition with no cuts on the surfaces but there is minor "bubbling" on the inside, and minor marks on the outside.
Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care with packing. For safe transport the shades will be wrapped separately in bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. These will be stacked together. The bases will also be wrapped separately in bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. Together these pieces would easily fit into a box with loose fill packing suitable for posting with a courier.

Each base alone (without the lamp shade) is Height: 31 cm; Width: 13 cm; Depth: 9 cm.
Each lamp shade alone has a Height of 17 cm. The bottom Diameter is 30 cm while the top Diameter is 10 cm.
WILLY DARO BIOGRAPHY
Belgian artist Willy Daro founded his factory "Les Nouveaux Ateliers Willy Daro SPRL" in Brussels, Belgium in the early 1960`s. His designs of the 1970`s combined the Brutalist style with his passion for fossils & minerals. Daro’s designs are sophisticated, with luxurious materials and great attention to detail making each piece a unique sculptural work of art. Willy Daro’s factory closed in 1987. Today his work is both fashionable and limited making it highly sought after.
AMETHYST CRYSTALS
Ancient Greeks and Romans used amethyst in several ways from beads in jewellery to amulets. These ancient civilizations placed a high value in this stone. Their belief was that the amethyst crystal meaning was synonymous with luxury. As such, it was highlighted as part of their crowns, sceptres and rings. In the Chinese philosophy of Feng Shui amethyst can amplify the flow of prosperity into the home.
