Paint Can Bank/Money Box Pop Art, after Geoffrey Rose’s ‘Frozen Moments’, 1980’s ca, American.

This vintage item has been gently cleaned respecting the aged patina.

Sold as home decoration, this money box must have been inspired by the original ‘Frozen Moments’ sculptures of the early 1970’s by Geoffrey Rose. The ‘wet paint` subject, along with the colors, typography & imagery drawn from modernist mass media & popular culture are in the style of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, and Claes Oldenburg. The use of the term "New Wave" would have been a nod to the Punk Rock movement.

In this sculpture the paint can magically appears suspended in air when in fact the paint is solid red plastic serving as the base. At the top is a metal can with a glossy paper wrapper. Written on the paper is “A NEW PAINT FROM U.S.A.”, “New Wave” & "THE AMERICAN PAINT FACTORY COMPANY N.Y." Either end has shiny chrome. In the bottom there is a quarter-width slot and the lid detaches to reveal a space to store coins.

Three options were offered in the original production: yellow, red, and blue.

This item is in very good vintage condition. The vintage patina has been preserved, with only the lightest of scratches on the plastic `paint spill`. The paper label is in good condition  with no rips. The metal has minor marks, rubbing & patina as expected in line with age but no rust.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport the item would be wrapped in bubble wrap, foam and an outer layer of card. It would then easily fit into a box with loose fill packing nuts, safe for posting with a courier. We ship with reliable couriers (signed for, tracked & insured).

GEOFFREY ROSE’S FROZEN MOMENTS

Fascinated by spilt milk which had frozen, Australian artist Geoffrey Rose created `Frozen Moments` sculptures in 1972. His one of a kind pieces such as `Fizzing Coke` & `Spiraling Spaghetti` were sold in art galleries. Rose called them "a celebration of the moment, not a significant moment, but when you make a sculpture out of it make it last forever, then it becomes more significant”. Rose also refers to Roy Lichtenstein paint themed works as references of Pop Art in his concepts.
