Trifari torch pin in sterling silver vermeil, by Alfred Philippe, designed in 1947, USA.
This Trifari torch pin, designed for the 1948 London Olympics, is decorated with pave and bezel set clear chaton cut rhinestones covering the flames, with a line running down the handle and a single prong set stone on the bottom.
Marked Pat Pend, Sterling and Trifari, indicating that it was manufactured between the time the patent was applied, February, 1947 and the date of issue in March, 1948. Very good vintage condition with all original rhinestones and some wear to the vermeil. Gift box included.

Vermeil is sterling silver coated with gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 10 carat (42%) and be at least 2.5 micrometres thick. Vermeil was used in the 1940`s when resources were limited and this is part of it`s appeal to collectors.
