Neoclassical brass chair with original scarlet red velvet upholstery, 1950`s ca, French.

This vintage chair has been thoroughly cleaned respecting the original antique patina on the brass, and is ready to use.

This Neoclassical design is a 1950`s French reinterpretation in solid brass of an Eighteenth Century gilt wood chair. The result is refined, elegant & strong.

This occasional chair with its Neoclassical design is well suited for a vast range of design schemes such as Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Maximalist, Traditional or Contemporary. This chair works well as a dining chair, desk chair, bedroom chair or an occasional chair.

In this design, the Neoclassical form is reduced to the essential silhouette. The result is a slender & elongated profile while still maintaining the symmetry of its earlier XVIII Century model. This 1950`s example, cast in solid brass using new techniques at the time, is elegant, stable and detailed in quality.

At the centre of the chair back is a cartouche framed by bold brass sides with decorative indentation in the corners. Attached at the four corners, the back floats within the vertical spindle supports. The result is light & elegant.

The vertical supports of the back are a continuation of the back legs, all in solid brass for strong support.

The front legs have a decorative ballister form similar to the back rest. All four of the legs have a slender tapered profile and terminate in a small button foot. The legs are joined with a straight stretcher making them strong & stable.

The brass seat rails frame the entire upholstered seat on all four sides.

The original scarlet velvet fabric is in good condition for its age, with some marks on the backseat & wear in the corners of the seat. On the back rest there are four brass decorative screws which also allow easy access to change the upholstery. The removable seat easily unscrews from the bottom side of the frame.

The polished brass frame is in good condition, sound & strong. The brass has a warm antique patina in line with age.

Additional dimensions:

The Height of the back is 94 cm.

The Height of the seat is 46.5 cm.

Packing is offered free of charge. This chair would be wrapped in bubble wrap with an outer layer of stretch wrap. If necessary an outer layer of cardboard or box could be added for shipping.
