Neoclassical brass chair, 1950`s ca, France.

This quality 1950s French reinterpretation in solid brass of an Eighteenth Century gilt wood chair is refined & elegant. The form is reduced to the essential silhouette resulting in a slender & elongated profile while still maintaining the symmetry of its earlier model. This 1950s example, cast in solid brass using new techniques at the time, is elegant, stable and detailed in its quality. It could fit any Interior scheme with its proportions and would serve well as a side chair, desk chair or dining chair.

The chair back has a shield shape framed by slanted sides which flare outward & upward. Attached at the four corners, the back floats within the vertical supports giving a sense of lightness & elegance. The vertical supports of the back are a continuation of the back legs, all in solid brass insuring strong support. The front brass legs are straight. The brass seat rails frame the entire upholstered seat on all four sides reinforcing the stablity. Each front leg has a raised circular medallion above it on the seat rail as well as a beautifully cast sphere with decorative detail just beneath the seat rail. All four of the legs have a slender tapered profile and terminate in a small button foot. The legs are joined with a straight stretcher.

In the original vintage light green velvet upholstery which is in very good condition for its age. On the back rest there are four brass screws which allow easy access to change the upholstery. The seat also detaches easily from the frame. The polished brass frame with its original lacquer is in good condition and has a warm aged patina.

The height of the back is 94 cm.

The height of the seat is 47 cm.
