Maison Jansen Art Deco girandole wall lights/sconces, a pair with gilt bronze bases,1930`s ca, French.

This pair of wall lights have been gently cleaned respecting the vintage patina. Both are newly rewired with gold tone cable & new lamp holders with covers, earthed, PAT tested by an electrician, fully working and ready to install. It is possible to use these lights in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. They can be used with a dimmer.

These Art Deco gilt bronze wall lights are in a majestic Art Deco style. The Modern Neoclassical design executed in solid gilt bronze combined with the quality casting are features of the designs by Maison Jansen, the attributed designer.

Elegant & timeless these vintage wall lights are a Modern take on the traditional French girandole. This pared down Neoclassical look was characteristic of the 1930`s Modernism. This design would suit a range of Interiors such as Antique, Art Deco, Traditional, or Hollywood Regency.

Each frame consists of an oval base in gilt bronze with a good heavy weight. The base is slightly convex and finished with indented outline and smoothly stepped at the edge. This reflects light in a warm & subtle manner, simulating a traditional antique girandole`s mirror. The top end of the base has a decorative ring.

From the bottom a single scrolling arm extends leading to an horizontal bar. The arm continues forward finishing with a large round decorative finial. The horizontal bar has a sinuous border creating movement. The top side is textured and has a narrow linear trim. Three stylised bronze candle cups hold the lamp holders. The lamp holders are new and covered with new cream card candle tubes. These tubes are shaped high & narrow, adding elegance and balancing the design. They can also be removed when needed. Underneath the horizontal bar there are two smaller decorative finials under the left & right lamp holders to complete the design.

The back side of the oval plate has an horizontal arm with an indentation for the metal hook that screws to the wall.

Each wall light carries 3 standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 60 Watts. At present these lights are fitted & photographed with twisted Candle clear shaped light bulbs of 40 Watts. These are included in the price. It is possible to use any other E14 Candle light bulbs.

These lights sell together as a pair, the price featured is for the pair.

Both sconces are in very good vintage condition with a warm age patina on the bronze that has been preserved giving character. The frames are sound. The surfaces have minor marks & some rubbing to the gilt in line with age & wear.

Additional dimensions:

The oval bronze base that attaches to the wall is: Height: 17 cm, Width: 10 cm
