Kalmar Palazzo flush light, brutalist "ice effect" glass & gilt brass, 1970`s ca, Austrian.

This chandelier has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. It is newly rewired, earthed & ready to install. Light bulbs included. It is possible to install this chandelier in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. It can be used with a dimmer.

This vintage chandelier by Kalmar Franken KG is a great balance between the Brutalist style of the 70`s with Art Deco, Hollywood Regency glamour & luxury materials.

Kalmar chandeliers are known for the quality of the crystals & originality of design. In this case the traditional Art Deco flush light shaped chandelier is given a Modern & Brutalist twist with the faceted geometric forms of the glass shades.

The combination of these influences makes this chandelier a unique addition to a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Traditional or Contemporary.

Quality 24 Karat gilt brass frame composed by a main cylindrical column with three tiers and twenty-six quality thick sculptural brutalist clear glass shades.

Typical of Kalmar’s attention to detail, there are two types of shades. The top and bottom row consists of long rectangular shades, while the middle ones are shorter and with angled borders at the top to allow a range of light bulbs. All the glass shades have an ice effect texture. They are rippled and faceted to beautifully reflect the light. Each removable shade screws to the end portion of the arm on the frame, and finishes externally with a solid brass decorative nut. On each arm also there is a solid brass washer that can be screwed flat close to the backside of the shade to keep it in place to avoid movement.

There are 26 glass shades in total: 14 big rectangular shades around the top tier, 8 small shades in the central tier and 4 big rectangular shades in the bottom tier.

There are 7 lamp holders placed horizontally in a sunburst pattern between the top & central tier. All with solid gilt brass covers.

Carries seven standard E 14 small screw light bulbs up to 40 Watts each. At present fitted & photographed with Pygmy clear light bulbs of 25 Watts, which are included in the price. This flush light could take any other light bulb shape such as Golf or Candle.

The chandelier secures tightly to the flat surface of the ceiling by rotating the bottom segment of the frame, which is a decorative gilt brass hexagonal finial. Rotating the finial which is attached to an internal tread that runs vertically inside the frame allows the tread to go up & down until reaching the required height. At the top portion of this tread there is an S hook to fit the piece to the ceiling. The top portion of the frame has a wider diameter to sit safely against the ceiling.

This vintage flush light is in very good condition. All the 26 glass shades are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The frame is in very good condition and sound with minor patina on the gilt in line with age.

The big shades are: Height: 20 cm, Width: 8 cm, Depth: 1.5 cm.
