Kalmar floor lamp, Brutalist glass & brass, likely by Richard Essig Besigheim, 1970`s ca, German.
This floor lamp has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. It is newly rewired with gold silk cable, new plug, earthed, PAT tested & ready to use. This lamp is compatible with other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. It is possible to use this lamp with a dimmer switch on the wall. Light bulbs included.
The Modernist form, molded glass segments and metalic surfaces are features of the designs by Richard Essig Besigheim. In this example, the toned solid brass gives an elegant presence to the Brutalist form & textures. This floor lamp has great sculptural presence with its large proportions. It would suit a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Modernist, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour or Contemporary.
The tubular frame is composed of eight textured clear glass cylinder shades in the Brutalist style simulating ice. Each segment is separated with a decorative solid brass band. At the top there is a decorative brass column of the same length as the glass shades to finish the design. From inside this brass portion of the frame raises one thinner bar towards the 3 lamp holders above.
The round base at the bottom is also in solid polished brass, and weighted for great stability.
The electrical cables run hidden inside the column to the 3 gilt metal lamp holders, one facing upwards and two facing downwards for evenly distributed light. Each lamp holder carries one standard big screw E 27 light bulb up to 100 Watts each. Presently fitted & photographed with E 27 Candle clear bulbs of 25 Watts which are included in this price.
There is a pull cord switch at the centre of the lamp holders. This allows control of the light from this comfortable position rather than bending down to the floor.
This vintage floor lamp has the original extra large vintage cream colour fabric drum shade with a fabric trim present. The shade is fitted to the top of the frame by a solid brass decorative finial that screw to the top of the frame. Three round metal washers add stability to the shade.
This floor lamp has been fully newly rewired & PAT tested with earthed gold-tone silk cable & new black plug. It can be used with a dimmer switch on the wall plate.
This lamp is in very good condition and the frame is sound. The glass portions are in very good condition with no loses or cracks. The clear lacquer is present on the brass surfaces and there is no dents. There is a warm antique patina developed on the brass & tiny marks on the white lacquer in line with age and use.
Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. This lamp would be wrapped securely in bubble wrap & an outer layer of card.
