Josef Ekberg Sgraffito vase produced for Gustafsberg,1911, Sweden.This original large Art Nouveau antique vase designed by Josef Ekberg is hand carved with the sgraffito technique.  Powder blue sponge-glaze with floral decoration in cadet blue glaze. Featuring a raised deep blue design against a mottled light blue background, all done in matte glazes. This  piece is hand made and therefore unique.  Hand signed `Gustafsberg 1911 J  Ekberg` . Very good condition.

Josef Ekberg ceramics - Josef Ekberg (1877-1945) was a local to Gustafsberg, Sweden. He was the leading designer for Gustavsberg ceramics from 1889 and later the artistic director between 1909 - 1918. Sgraffito Ware was made there only between 1890 and 1920. Ekberg was the main designer of this type of work, most of these are with plant motifs decoration. Each piece is unique. Examples of this ware are found in several museum collections including the Victoria & Albert in London, The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and the Porslinsmuseet in Gustavsberg.
