Jean Claude Courjault Midcentury ceramic table lamp, signed by the artist,1960`s ca, La Cerisaie, French.

This vintage table lamp has been gently cleaned while respecting the age patina. It is newly rewired & earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to use. It has the following new electrical components: bronze metal lamp holder, bronze tone silk cable, black cord switch, black plug (UK Plug up to 250V) & a new fabric lampshade. Lightbulb included. This lamp can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use this light in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity.

Presented here is a French Midcentury salt stoneware one of a kind table lamp by French ceramist Jean-Claude Courjault, produced at Keraluc, near Quimper, France. Signed (hand-incised) by the artist underneath: `Courjault La Cerisaie Piece Unique`, and featuring the stamped monograme: `CJC` next to the passage of the electric wire at the base of the lamp.

Superbly hand painted & sculpted by the artist, this vintage lamp is unique. It was created originally as a lamp. With the earthy tones & elegant shape, this lamp would be a sculptural addition to a range of Interiors including Art Deco, Arts & Crafts, Hollywood Regency, Midcentury Modern, Traditional, Country, French Provincial, Industrial or Contemporary.

At the focal point is a ceramic base, round with an elongated neck. Quality handcrafted with great attention to detail. There is hand painted floral decorations, various sculpted textured patterns & scarred geometric friezes on the clay along the surface creating texture & depth. These complement the earthy colours: various shades of beige, brown, grey & olive green. Clever use of a vibrant blue tone along the top trim creates an accent & finishes the design.

The neck leads to the new E 27 bronze meal lamp holder sitting on a brass metal plate. The lamp holder has 2 bronze metal screw rings to hold the lampshade in place.

This lamp carries 1 standard big screw light bulb (E 27) up to 100 Watts. At present fitted & photographed with a Clear shaped light bulb of 25 Watts. This is included in the price. It is possible to use any other E14 bulbs.

The new conical lampshade is in a taupe tone fabric on the outside & lined white inside. The maximum Wattage with this shade is 40 Watts.

This vintage table lamp is in very good condition for its age. The ceramic base is in very good condition with no cracks or chips, a light age patina & minor rubbing and tiny superficial marks at the bottom in line with age & wear. The lampshade is new and in very good condition.

JEAN CLAUDE COURJAULT BIOGRAPHY

Jean-Claude Courjault is a French sculptor & ceramicist born in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, France, in 1943. He grew up in a family of artisans and was exposed to the world of ceramics at an early age as her family were creative artisans.
He started experimenting with ceramics in the late 1950`s, completing his studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d`Art in Paris in 1965. He began soon after exhibiting his work and was soon noticed by important galleries and art collectors.

After having collaborated with the Breton earthenware factory Keraluc, where he produced unique pieces made of salt stoneware, he opened his own workshop at La Cerisaie.

His work was early on influenced by the style of the traditional hand painted Quimper Faience, produced in Brittany, France, since 1708.
Courjault`s new style incorporates colour and texture, using numerous techniques including sculpture to create pieces both visually attractive and technically impressive. His production ranged from functional pieces like plates and vases
to very experimental sculptural forms such as Modernist lamps.
In 1977 he was awarded the `Award Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris`, and later on the `Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres` of France.

Courjault is still active today at his French Studio. His vintage pieces much sought after by international collectors and considered among the best of contemporary French ceramics.
