Giovanni Schoeman sculpture of a Peacock in cold-cast bronze, large size, in the Brutalist style, 1970`s ca, English.

This vintage wall sculpture has been thoroughly cleaned while respecting the vintage patina.

This particularly large Schoeman wall sculpture from around 1972, is fascinating on several levels. The Peacock is deconstructed into core parts with severe geometric representation typical of the Brutalist style. In addition Schoeman went beyond his usual icons and patterns to included classical images such as fairies.

Made from `Cold Cast Metal`; a technique developed in the 1960`s where metal powder is set within a resin binder.

In this sculpture, bronze, copper and white metal are artistically built up and stamped. The attention to detail and crisp finish are exemplary of Schoeman`s creative & technical ability.

After the casting this piece was signed by Giovanni below the tail (as photographed).

Framed on the original vintage Hessian brown background and original vintage gilt wood frame. The frame hangs safely on the wall by two strong hooks fitted at the back.

If preferred by the customer, the sculpture could be easily removed from the frame and hessian background to be displayed on its own.

The sculpture is in excellent condition, sound and complete, with no losses and a warm vintage patina. The Hessian is in good condition for its age, but has some damage due to rubbing overtime in a few areas. The wooden frame is in good condition with some patina such as minor rubbing to the gilt and a few marks in line with age & wear.

Reportedly this piece is illustrated in `Mides Arts Collection`, Highgate Road, London, 1970`s, page 3. Another Schoeman sculpture of the period appeared in the first series of the TV programme Mad Men as photographed.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care with packing. For safe transport t his wall sculpture would be wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap, foam & card and then boxed. It weighs about 35 Kg but could be easily shipped with a courier.
