Giorgio Ramponi furniture (attributed), clothing cabinet, 1930`s ca, Italy. This is a very attractive piece attributed to Italian architect Giorgio Ramponi whose designs are known for their highly decorative style most typically highly decorated doors on cocktail bars and credenzas. On this Giorgio Ramponi cabinet the simple geometric shape and rich decoration work well together and could fit in a contemporary or antique decor. The wooden lacquered frame consists of two decorated bi-folding doors, with an 18th Century country scene on an ebonised & gloss lacquer wood external frame. There is a thin brass inlay around the cabinet doors emphasizing the geometric shape. Another brass trim finishes the rectangular pedestal base at the bottom. The cabinet is illuminated inside at the top through a rectangular hole covered with removable satin clear glass. This light is turned on when the doors are opened. Inside there are five removable Bakelite clothes hooks, above which there is a clear removable glass shelf against the original cream vinyl padded walls. At the top surface of the cabinet there is a new removable black glass which finishes the cabinet nicely on top and covers the electrical wires. The back of the cabinet is plain wood painted in black satin finish so this piece is for use against the wall. This cabinet could easily be converted into a book shelf as it has the depth to fit A4 folders. This piece has a lot of character, with some wear and patina in line with age. There has been slight restoration, respecting the original antique condition. The glass surfaces have been replaced, and the light fully rewired with a plug to the wall. Fully functional and ready to use.

Giorgio Ramponi was an Italian architect mostly active in Bologna and a contemporary of Piero Fornasetti who designed highly sought after Fornasetti  furniture.  Some of Ramponi`s furniture can be found in the book:Published `Mobili tipo` by Roberto Aloi, Hoepli edizione 1956
