Fontana Arte chandelier, bronze with emerald faceted crystal bobeches, 8 lights, 1940`s ca, Italian.

This Neoclassical Italian chandelier, attributed to Fontana Arte, has a strong Art Deco influence. It features an elegant combination of a solid bronze frame shaped into spiral fluting with 8 quality faceted emerald crystal bobeches. The emerald green crystals radiant next to the patinated bronze. This elegant piece would fit either in a traditional, Art Deco or Modernist setting.
From a central spiral column there are 8 elongated arms, each with the similar fluting detail in the centre. Each arm curves outwardly and up creating movement to a decorative hand polished emerald crystal faceted bobeche. Above this, there is a tulip shaped candle cup with the same spiral fluting. The lamp holder is covered by a papermache beige candle-shaped tube. The bottom of the chandelier has a cluster body with the same decorative spiral fluting and a bronze finial with simple vertical fluting.
The chandelier takes 8 standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 40 Watts each. Photographed & fitted with 25 Watts candle clear light bulbs, which are included in the price.
At the top of the column there is a top canopy in bronze along with a bronze pendant rod which easily unscrews from the top of the frame. The rod can be replaced with a longer one or chain if needed. The original ceiling cup has inside an S hook for safely fitting the light to the ceiling.
The quality solid bronze frame is in very good condition with a warm age related patina adding depth & character. All the 8 crystal bobeches are in excellent condition. The 8 candle-shaped tube covers have been replaced.
The full height of the chandelier with the bar & ceiling cup is 70 cm.
The height of just the frame (without the bar or ceiling cup) is 55 cm.
The length of the bar with the ceiling cup is 15 cm.
Fontana Arte History
Fontana Arte was formed in 1932 by Gio Ponti, as an artistic division in the parent company Luigi Fontana glass manufacturer. In his designs for the company, Ponti used glass as the main feature which was truly unique and modern for the time. This design concept focusing on glass complemented the interiors of many houses that Ponti personally designed. This prolific relationship between Ponti & Fontana Arte set the foundation for eight decades of collaborations with a range of respected designers & architects. The result is timeless objects, with splendid shapes, some of which have become design classics on show in the most important museums around the world.
