This elegant pair of antique bronze wall lights are attributed to Maison Lucien Gau. The design is a reinterpretation of the traditional French classical scroll style theme sconce executed in gold plated gilt bronze. The acanthus leaf and the elongated scrolling pattern form are kept simple for a Modern clean look. These are design features similar to the work of Lucien Gau. This design would suit a range of interiors such as Antique,Traditional, Hollywood Regency, Post Modern, or Contemporary.
At nearly 48 cm tall, these wall lights have an stunning decorative presence. They could be positioned on the wall either facing inwards or outwards. Here they are photographed both ways.
Each frame is made in solid gilt bronze with a quality cast elongated acanthus leaf leaf pattern in a warm gold tone.
The acanthus leaf has been used throughout history as architectural and design features. It is a perennial and has been symbolic of longevity.
The bottom part of the scrolling leaf motif is of larger and wider proportions, leading to the lamp holder. There is a tubular vertical rod in polished brass hiding the wiring, together with a round decorative brass detail, and a polished brass lamp holder cover.
Both antique sconces have been newly rewired and earthed with two new brass E 27 lamp holders. Each carry one standard big crew light bulb up to 40 Watts. At present fitted with Candle Clear light bulbs of 25 Watts which are included in the price.
The two original vintage Venetian silk shades in a beige tone are present, with a black & gold trim around. They can be easily removed or screwed to the lamp holder by a brass ring.
At the centre of each sconce there is at the front a ribbon like decorative detail on a rectangular plate in gilt bronze. The plate has a hook on the backside to fit to the wall, together with 2 holes where to pass to round decorative gilt metal screws to further seccure to the wall.
Both wall lights are in very good condition. The bronze frames are sound with no damages. The gilt surfaces have minor marks and the original antique patina in line with age & wear. The fabric shades are in good condition with no damages and only minor marks mostly on the back of the frame and some rubbing in line with age & wear.
These sconces sell together and the price is for the pair.
