Brass coat rack, Tjerk Reijenga (attributed) for Pilastro, 1970`s ca, Dutch.
This
solid polished brass
coat rack with its geometric sculptural shape is elegant as well as practical. It has several features similar to the designs by Tjerk Reijenga who is the attributed designer. The form, hanging hooks and the lower space for umbrellas were features of Reijenga`s iconic coat rack of the 50`s & 60`s.
The frame is great quality with detail. Its
geometric form has four components. From the top there is a hat rack with space for two hats side-by-side. This is suspended by a brass rod to hold coat hangers. Below this, there are 4 solid brass coat hooks at the top and 2 hooks at the bottom for a total of 6. All the individual
pieces are screwed together which is a sign of hand assembled craftsmanship.
The frame has two holes in the back (58 cm apart) from which the piece can hang from screws in the wall. Excellent condition.
