Bankers Art Deco desk lamp with adjustable hinge in brass, 1930`s ca, American.

This lamp has been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. It has been newly rewired, earthed and PAT tested by an electrician. It has new bronze tone silk cable, new lampholder, and new black plug. This lamp can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use this lamp in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity.

This antique desk lamp is a good example of the bankers lamps from the Art Deco period. The scalloped & curved edges soften the Modernist form. Not only sculptural, this lamp provides task lighting ideal for the desk or bedside. It would also be interesting in the corridor providing indirect lighting. This lamp would suit a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Country, Traditional, Contemporary or Industrial.

The design is cast polished brass. The square base is a stepped plinth with curved rather than straight sides to keep the design `soft`. On the base there is the original brass switch in working order. Inside the base is cast iron adding stability.

Underneath the base is padded with new black felt to protect the furniture below.

The main column is of square section, in polished brass with fluted decoration at the angles.

At the top of this column there is a pivotal brass key to rotate the shade in different positions, back & forward. The shade can be angled and locked into positioned where needed. The column also has quality design details such as two decorative brass flat plates: one between the base and the column and the other between the column and the pivotal key.

The pivotal key has a tubular brass arm leading to the large rectangular shade. The shade is of polished brass on the outside. On the inside it has the original white enamel to reflect the light. A brass decorative bolt screws the shade to the column. A new porcelain & brass lampholder has been fitted inside the shade, along with a heat resistant cover to protect the new wiring.

The shade has subtle & interesting details such as the scalloped trim at the front turning to straight trim along the other three sides. There is embossed decoration on the lateral sides of the shade.

This lamp carries one standard (E14) small screw light bulb up to 40 Watts. Presently fitted & photographed with a Candle clear light bulb of 25 Watts, which is included in the price. It is possible to used other E14 bulb types.

This antique lamp is in very good condition. The frame & lampshade are sound with no damages. The brass surfaces have the original clear lacquer present, with an antique patina developed over the years. There are minor superficial marks & rubbing in line with age.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport the lamp would be packed with bubble wrap, foam and an outer layer of card. It would easily fit into a box with cushion filling for secure shipping with a courier.

The total Height is 30.5 cm.

The square base is: Width: 15 cm, Depth: 15 cm.
