Viennese lighting company Bakalowits produced lighting fit for a King. Actually it was the Emperor. In 1892 Bakalowits & Sons provided the first electronic chandeliers for the Viennese Imperial Palace and went on to be the Royal Purveyor to the Court.
Founded in 1845 by Elias Bakalowits, the company remains family focused with the fifth generation leading the business today.
Making a first impression at the 1900 World Exposition in Paris, the company repeated its performance at future exhibitions in St. Petersburg, London, Geneva & Turin.
After the war, Bakalowits brought the sparkle back to damaged Viennese buildings such as the parliament and Opera House with designs to reflect the new Modernist trends: shapes become more geometrical but still playful and with a classic feel.
At Roomscape we search for vintage chandeliers with Modernist forms packed full of crystals for maximum impact.
