Angelo Mangiarotti style wall lights/sconces, Murano glass chain links on a steel frame, a pair, 1970`s ca, Italian

This pair of vintage wall lights has been thoroughly cleaned while respecting the aged patina. Each has been rewired with a new lamp holder, earthed and PAT tested by an electrician. They are fully working and ready to install.  It is possible to use these lights in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. They can be used with a dimmer.

These sconces were inspired by Angelo Mangiarotti`s 1960`s chandelier of chain link Murano glass. Mangiarotti`s original model `Giogali` was innovative, winning the `Compasso d’Oro` at the Triennial of Milan in 1969 and has become a Design Classic. The lights have many of the features as Mangiarotti`s original design: clear textured Murano glass interlocking chain links and a steel frame. One of the beauties of the design is the option to move around the glass links.

The tiered form with its cascading waterfall pattern is grand, but still `light`. This look would suit a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Minimalist, Industrial or Contemporary.

Arranged down each sconce are 12 handmade Murano clear glass chain links. In the photograph the arrangement is a series of 4 glass pieces on each chain. The top of the glass links hook onto the frame.

The links are open and therefore removable. This also allows to change the overall length & design. In total there are 24 glass links between the pair. The links initially could be arranged in 3 columns of 4 links on each chain. The glass links could also be placed in alternate patterns to create different shapes as photographed.

The glass surface is textured & undulated which creates a sense of movement and reflects the light. Each Murano glass piece is of great quality and handmade in Italy, thick & strong. The `hook` portion is particularly long to secure to the frame.

The square steel frames are in the brutalist style with a satin finish. There is an arched band of metal fitted at the top with 3 metal hooks attached from which to hang the glass.

Two holes on each plate allow the sconces to be fitted onto the wall.

One pivotal lamp holder is fitted at the centre of each frame. The lamp holder has a silver metal decorative cover and a side metal key to change the angle of the light. There is a decorative round nut fitted under the lamp holder.

Each sconce carries 1 standard E14 small screw light bulb up to 100 Watts. At present fitted & photographed with Candle clear light bulbs of 60 Watts which are included in the price.

These sconces are in very good vintage condition. The metal frames are sound with no damages and minor superficial marks in line with age. All the glass links are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.

Additional Dimensions:

The total Height of each sconce with the glass links on (as in the option photographed) is: Height: 45 cm, Width: 30 cm , Depth: 15 cm.

The frame alone (without the glass links) is: Height: 12 cm, Width: 23.5 cm, Depth: 12 cm.

Each square base that attaches to the wall is: Height: 12 cm, Width: 12 cm.

Each Murano glass link is: Height: 13 cm, Width: 10 cm, Depth: 5 cm.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take professional care with packing. These sconces would travel well with all the components wrapped separately. The frames would be wrapped in bubble wrap, foam & an outer layer of card. Each glass link would be wrapped in foam & bubble wrap. Small groups of glass shades would be boxed. Together these parts would easily fit into a box with loose fill packing nuts, safe for posting with a courier. We ship with reliable couriers (signed for, tracked & insured).
