Aichi Tokei Denki clock 1940`s Made in Occupied Japan.

This vintage wall clock has been thoroughly cleaned respecting the vintage patina. It has been fully serviced and is in good working order. Key included.

This vintage wall clock is particularly unique as it is stamped `Made in Occupied Japan`, the term used for the time period from the end of World War II in 1945 through to April 25, 1952. It was during this time that the Allies `occupied` Japan and it was a requirement that products for export had this stamp. Because of this specific and relatively brief dating, items with this mark are rare & very collectible. For many collectors the social history attached to this further adds to the appeal.

This Art Deco clock has the bold font of the post war period set in a Modernist wooden case. The composition along with its history make this a sculptural piece with a story to tell. It is fully working with a chime on the hour & half hour.

The layers of the different shades of paint give age & character, perfect for the industrial look. This wall clock could fit in a vast range of Interior Decors.

At the focal point is the futuristic square clock face with its geometric images & iconic digits. The metal background has white & grey triangles spanning outwards drawing attention to the digits in classic Art Deco font. Inside the digits the minutes are denoted in a square pattern with every 10 minutes highlighted in bold. The design composition is one of energetic movement towards the future.

The hour and minute hands are in black metal and also in the Art Deco style.

At the bottom of the clock face there is a stamp `Made in Occupied Japan`. Towards the top is the company motif, a horse on a globe.

There is a classic lock & key mechanism; one to wind the time and another for the chime.

The clock face is within a rectangular wooden case. A t the top t here is a square glass window for the clock face. Beneath this there is a rectangular glass window to view the pendulum & hammer with its chime.

The rectangular window has 3 brass decorative pillars running through the centre. This decorative detail is repeated on either side of the window with thicker black wooden pillars of the same height.

The pendulum is in wood & metal and can be removed.

Running down the centre of the wooden frame there are 2 parallel groves. These also run between the brass pillars at the bottom of the clock uniting the design.

The wooden & glass cover is on brass hinges to the box frame. This swings open to access inside. The cover is held closed with a latch also of brass.

Inside there is the working mechanism which works and chimes the time on the hour and a single chime on the half hour. The chime is of metal and sits on a metal plate decorated with period detailing.

On the back of the wooden case there is the original vintage brass hook to hang this piece from a screw to the wall. This brass hook also retracts into the frame to allow this piece to freely stand on the table if preferred.

Comes with a chrome key for winding.

This vintage clock is fully working and in very good condition. The wooden frame is in original condition, with great decorative effect due to the layering of patina and colour over the years. It is mostly painted in an utilitarian shade of `military` green. The glass surfaces are the original vintage and in very good condition. There is minor wear on the wooden surfaces as expected in line with age adding character.

Additional dimensions:

The actual clock face has the dimensions: Height: 16.5 cm, Width: 18.5 cm.

Packing is offered free of charge. The pendulum would be removed and wrapped individually as would the key. The chime would be padded and the clock wrapped in double bubble. This piece would easily fit in a box perfect for posting.
