Sciolari brass chandelier with twelve lights, 1970`s ca, Italy.
This Modernist sculptural vintage chandelier is
Gaetano Sciolari`s
Minimalist re-interpretation of a traditional design. It is an assemblage of six elongated arms, each of which finishes with two lights for a total of twelve lights. The
solid brass frame is finished in a
brushed satin tone which adds luxury & a soft texture to the minimal form.
From a central brass column fall six brass tubes held together at the bottom in a brass wheel pattern. From each tube, an arm extends outwards with two brass lamp holders at two levels. Two brass horizontal surfaces join the vertical rods in each arm. The external one is slightly shorter than the central one thereby
creating two inverted tiers with depth and interesting
reflections.
Takes 12 standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 40 Watts each. Presently fitted & photographed with Pygmy shaped clear light bulbs of 15 Watts, which are widely available in lighting shops. Alternatively it is possible to use other light bulbs such as candle shape or golf, for a classical look. The chain can be reduced or lengthened. At the top of the chain there is a brass ceiling cup which has inside an S hook for fitting the piece to the ceiling. Newly rewired and in full working order. Light bulbs included. Very good condition with a nice antique patina on the brass which adds character. With the chain folded this piece would fit easily in a box for shipping.
Height of the frame alone without the chain is 100.5 cm.
Length of the chain alone is 62 cm.
Gaetano Sciolari Biography
While Sciolari Lighting has been around since 1892, it was their most famous offspring Gaetano Sciolari who went on to design for Italian manufacturer Stilnovo in the 1950’s. Sciolari`s first designs were Atom inspired pendants, but in the 60’s he shifted to conventional chandelier forms. Read more on our Blog about
